Bad start for the second round of municipal elections. According to the first figures communicated this Sunday by the Ministry of the Interior, the participation amounted to 12 hours at 15.29%, 4.5 points less than that recorded in the second round in 2014 (19.83%) , and 8 points lower compared to 2008 (23.68%).

This figure is also down sharply compared to the participation recorded at the same time on March 15 (18.38%), during the first ballot which resulted in a record abstention: less than one voter in two (44.3%, compared to 63.5% in 2014) had moved to vote on March 15 due to the risk of contamination with the coronavirus.

Regional disparities

The departments that had voted the most at noon are Corse du Sud (32.03%), Cantal (28.92%), Allier (28.13%), Lozère (27.73%) and Landes (27.35%). The departments that mobilized the least are Seine-Saint-Denis (7.34%), Ille-et-Vilaine (8.18%), Paris (8.34%), Hauts-de-Seine (8.96%) and Val d'Oise (9.66%).

In addition, voters in the three highly populated departments of Bouches-du-Rhône (15.99%), Rhône (16.69%) and Nord (13.74%) moved in near-average proportions national.
