It has been 26 years since Olof Johansson (C) left the government because he felt it was wrong to build a bridge between Denmark and Sweden. He has not regretted his decision.

- Never, says Olof Johansson.

The government was replaced during the construction process

The decision to build the Öresund Bridge was signed between the Swedish and Danish government in 1991, when the Prime Minister was named Ingvar Carlsson (S). Three later were Carl Bildt (M) prime minister and Olof Johansson (C) environment minister.

- It's not just a bridge. It is about how much car traffic it would create. We have an environmental crisis in the world. Is it good to trigger car traffic, Olof Johansson asks rhetorically.

He says he has never been opposed to a fixed link across the Sound.

- My party wanted a drilled tunnel between Helsingborg and Helsingör. It was for trains, not car traffic, says Olof Johansson (C).

"Öresund Bridge a risk factor"

It is the environment in the Baltic Sea that Olof Johansson primarily wants to protect.

- The Öresund Bridge is a risk factor and will always be, but I assume that they have dredged properly and caught the shit and make sure that things do not destroy, says Olof Johansson.

Hear Olof Johansson tell us how it went when he filed his farewell application to Carl Bildt in the clip above.
