MoDem president François Bayrou was re-elected mayor of Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), winning on Sunday in the second round of municipal elections, according to an estimate. According to Ifop Fiducial for M6 and Sud Radio, François Bayrou was re-elected with 55.5% of the vote against Jérôme Marbot (PS, 44.5%).

The (false) suspense that hovered over the past few weeks over François Bayrou's candidacy for the municipal elections in Pau was lifted at the end of January. At the end of a press conference, the outgoing mayor had confirmed that he would be a candidate for re-election. The outgoing mayor then assured that his 2014 program had been completed "at 96%". "But there is still a lot to do," he added. He now has six years to complete his program.

As a reminder, the president of MoDem was indicted in early December for "complicity in embezzlement of public funds" in the investigation into the allegedly fictitious jobs of assistants to MEPs from MoDem. An “unfounded” indictment assured his lawyer at the time. It remains to be seen whether it can weaken it in view of these elections.
