  The commendation involved many aspects such as ecological protection, Tibetan medicine research, biodiversity, and yak germplasm resources.

  The project “Historic Barley Genome Evolution and Importance of Functional Gene Mining”, which was collaborated by several research institutions in and outside Tibet, won the first prize of the Tibet Science and Technology Awards in 2019. This research was the first to draw a framework map of the highland barley genome. North-India-Nepal's domestication migration route into southeastern Tibet of China.

  In addition, Wang Baohai, a researcher of the Tibet Autonomous Academy of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Sciences who won the He Liang Heli Foundation Science and Technology Award, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and former chief engineer of the Tibet Autonomous Region Geological and Mineral Exploration and Development Bureau, Doji, and researcher of the Tibet Autonomous Region Forestry Investigation and Planning Institute Liu Wulin were also present at the meeting.   Liu Wulin won the 2018 Tibet Autonomous Region Science and Technology Award Outstanding Contribution Award. After graduating from a professional school in 1979, he worked in Tibet. For 40 years, he has been engaged in the investigation, research, promotion and application of Tibet’s terrestrial biodiversity at the Tibet Forestry Investigation and Planning Institute. He has published 14 monographs and published more than 60 academic papers (including 6 SCI papers), and has won three second prizes of China's National Science and Technology Progress Award.

  He told reporters that after 21 years of research on the biodiversity of Qiangtang (uninhabited area in northern Tibet) in Tibet; in the Qiangtang area, more than 200 kinds of insects, more than 400 kinds of seed plants, and nearly 40 kinds of vertebrates were newly recorded. The research results provide reliable background information and scientific basis for the ecological environment protection and economic and social development of the region.

  The chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region Qi Zara said at the meeting that Tibet should continue to deepen the reform of the scientific and technological system and mechanism, strengthen the construction of innovative talents, vigorously implement the strategy of promoting Tibet through science and technology, and strengthen the region with talents.
