ChinaNews.net client, June 27 (Reporter Wu Tao) On the 27th, the large-scale manned demonstration application of Shanghai Intelligent Connected Automobile was launched, and Didi Chuxing opened its first automatic driving service to the public.

Users can register online through the Didi APP, and after passing the review, they will be able to call a self-driving vehicle for a trial ride experience for free on the autonomous driving test section in Shanghai. At this stage, the scope of the test is limited to the open test road in Shanghai, and the route passes through the core areas such as the automobile exhibition center, office area, subway station, and hotel.

In order to ensure the safety of the trip, the self-driving test vehicle is equipped with safety officers in accordance with relevant regulations, and can take over the vehicle at any time to deal with emergencies. At the same time, Didi has also set up an autonomous driving safety escort center, which can monitor vehicles and road conditions in real time, and give assistance instructions when vehicles face complex situations to solve possible remote assistance problems in future autonomous driving operations.

According to reports, at some intersections in the test area, Didi deployed a self-developed car-road collaborative solution, which can share road information in real time with autonomous driving test vehicles of different companies in the area to eliminate driving blind spots.

It is worth noting that under special circumstances such as rainy days, is autonomous driving feasible? On the 27th, Didi et al. happened to experience heavy rain in Shanghai during the live broadcast of the auto-driving car-hailing, but the auto-driving car-hailing still ran smoothly and took orders normally.

Didi introduced that rainy days, nights and extreme scenes have always been problems that global autonomous driving companies need to continue to solve. In a rainy scene, for lidar, raindrops, water accumulation on the ground, and splashing water splashes may cause noise, which is equivalent to the deterioration of the vision of the "driver". The algorithm needs to effectively remove these noises, otherwise it is easy to cause All kinds of emergency brakes.

"In addition, rainy weather affects the grip of automobile tires, which puts higher requirements on the control system of the automatic driving system. When there is water on the ground, the positioning accuracy will deteriorate. Pedestrians who use umbrellas on rainy days are relatively long-tailed. The situation requires that the machine has good training data coverage and sufficient algorithm redundancy to ensure recognition."

Di Bo, CTO and CEO of autonomous driving company Zhang Bo said, "Didi makes up for the limitation that autonomous vehicles can only be used in certain areas by mixing bills for drivers and autonomous vehicles. Staying a novel experience can become a practical supplement to people's daily travel."

Cheng Wei, founder and CEO of Didi Chuxing, said, "I believe that the final AI technology will greatly improve driving safety and efficiency. At the same time, I believe that autonomous driving will mature from technology, commercial maturity to mature regulations. The plan for continuous investment should also be prepared to face various difficulties and challenges, but the direction is clear and firm."

Cheng Wei also believes that "the driver's temperature service will not disappear due to the emergence of new technologies, and autonomous driving will also create new occupations and jobs for ride-hailing drivers."

When watching the live broadcast, the reporter noticed that the self-driving car was about to get on the road. Currently, each car is equipped with 2 staff members.

According to Didi, it has been setting up an autonomous driving R&D team since 2016. It has obtained road test qualifications in Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, and California, and was awarded the first batch of manned demonstration application licenses issued by Shanghai in September last year.
