The United States of America and the United Nations on Friday condemned the entry of mercenaries from the Russian Wagner Company and other nationalities to the Sharara oil field in southern Libya.

Stephen Dujarric, a spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, expressed deep concern about the presence of mercenaries in the Sharara oil field.

"We have publicly and privately expressed our deep concern and disappointment over the continued presence of all types of foreign forces and armed personnel and the continued dispatch of weapons to Libya," Dujarric told reporters on a television station at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Friday.

A confidential UN report confirmed earlier that mercenaries are fighting alongside Haftar who are affiliated with two companies in Dubai (Al-Jazeera).

Preventing the resumption of exports

Earlier Friday, the Libyan National Oil Corporation expressed great concern about the presence of Russian mercenaries and other nationalities in the Sharara field.

The foundation said in a statement that a convoy of dozens of military vehicles entered the Sharara field on Thursday, to prevent the resumption of exports after a siege that lasted for months.

On June 7, the Sharara field resumed operation again after a standstill of nearly 5 months.

In January, loyalists of Haftar closed the port of Zouitina (east), claiming that the oil sale money was used by the internationally recognized government of National Accord.

The oil production channels in Libya, the largest of which is the Sharara field, continued to be closed for 142 days, and this cost the public treasury an estimated loss of $ 5.269 billion.

The Sharara field, the largest in the country, with an average daily production of 300,000 barrels, out of the total production of one million barrels per day in normal.

Direct assault

In turn, the United States of America expressed its concern Friday about the intervention of the Russian Wagner Group, and foreign mercenaries, against the facilities of the National Oil Corporation in Libya.

A statement by the US embassy in Tripoli, published on its Facebook page, said that this interference "constitutes a direct attack on Libya's sovereignty and prosperity."

The embassy expressed regret that "the Libyan parties were unable to reach a solution that would lift the blockade imposed on oil and gas, and allow the National Oil Corporation to resume its vital work throughout the country, on behalf of all Libyans."

Claiming sanctions

In the context, the Minister of the Interior of the Government of National Accord, Fathi Pashaga, demanded the European Union to include the Russian Wagner Company on the sanctions regulations and classify them among the sponsors of terrorism, because of the crimes it committed against humanity in Libya, as he put it.

On his Twitter page, Pashaga warned that the control of Russian elements on oil fields threatens Libyan national security and undermines the interests of all American and European companies related to the oil sector in Libya.

He added that these companies will be held hostage to an unprecedented Russian invasion, and that the control of Wagner's mercenaries over the Sharara oil field, along with a group of Janjaweed, is a dangerous precedent in the control of foreign mercenaries on the wealth of the Libyans.

On the other hand, the spokesman for the Sirte and Al-Jafra operations room, Abdul Hadi Drah, said that more than 11 flights of Russian cargo planes of the type "Antenov" and "Ilyushin" landed at the base of Al-Qaradabiya airport, south of the city of Sirte, carrying Syrian mercenaries, weapons and ammunition.

Derah confirmed that the reconnaissance teams in the National Accord Forces monitored the arrival of these planes with mercenaries and weapons on board, and that units of the anti-aircraft "Pansir" system arrived in Sirte from Russia.
