The bill, carried by two FCC deputies, a platform led by ex-president Joseph Kabila, is described by its detractors, including by some chancelleries, as a threat to the independence of the judiciary.

“  A parliamentary majority, however legal it may be, loses its legitimacy when it is disconnected from the interests and well-being of the people. It is unacceptable that laws are tailored to the ambitions of political leaders. The proposed laws, under consideration in the National Assembly, will undermine the independence of the judiciary,  "declared Father Donatien Nshole / Secretary General of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO) to RFI.

Among the proposed changes, there are in particular the procedures for the exercise of the authority of the Minister of Justice over the prosecutors.

This approach caused an outcry in the country and for the Catholic prelates, a forcing would cause chaos.

Seeking to force the examination of these questions by force would risk throwing the country into chaos.
