"In response to the US announcement of visa restrictions imposed on Chinese officials, the official representative of the PRC Chancellery in Hong Kong expressed strong protest, and also urged the United States to immediately correct its mistakes and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs," RIA Novosti quoted the agency as saying.

Earlier, the United States announced visa sanctions against a number of representatives of China for actions in relation to Hong Kong.

In late May, US leader Donald Trump said that Washington is developing “something powerful” in relation to Beijing because of the situation in Hong Kong.

It was reported that US congressmen will propose sanctions against the Chinese authorities, which are involved in promoting new national security legislation in Hong Kong.
