Each had a specific role. Part of the team was responsible for recruiting and retaining traders "including using violence", observes a police source. The other then took care of placing the underground slot machines at their home and maintaining them. But members of this network from Turkish and Kurdish communities were unaware that they had been under surveillance for several months by investigators from the Central Racing and Games Service (SCCJ).

During an operation which took place on June 16 and 23, the bloodhounds of the judicial police arrested 35 people, aged 24 to 57, in Val-d'Oise, Oise, Seine-Saint -Denis and Eure. About 80 civil servants and gendarmes participated in the operation, including investigators from the PJ of Lille, Versailles and Rouen. During the twenty searches carried out, they seized 25 slot machines, 80,000 euros in cash, several vehicles and a handgun.

1 million euros per year

The investigation was opened last fall, under the aegis of the Paris Interregional Specialized Jurisdiction (JIRS). The police discovered that this network had installed machines in about 80 shops, bars or tea rooms which brought them 1 million euros per year, estimates a source close to the file. In this case, 14 people were indicted for the exploitation, provision and possession of prohibited gaming devices in organized gangs, organized crime, misuse of corporate assets and money laundering.
