It is the traces of the fleet that must now be restored. From time to time, many people struggled hard to clear obstacles from rivers and streams for timber to reach the coast. Today, timber transport is underway, but few watercourses have been restored and important habitats for threatened species such as salmon, otters and river pearl mussels have disappeared.

- Historically, we have a very large debt since the float, says Roger Vallin, at the County Administrative Board in Västerbotten.

"We can recreate nature"

Vallin has worked on several restoration projects in the past and can see the effect of the measures relatively quickly.

- It is very inspiring when we create play bottoms and almost immediately so salmon and trout use it. It is a fantastic good receipt that we can recreate nature, ”he says.

These waters are restored

Between 2021-2026 the restoration work will be carried out from the mouth of the Öreälven in the sea with several tributaries up to Storforsen above Örträsk in Västerbotten. Ammerån, Åre and Rörström in Jämtland as well as Moälven and Hemlingsån in Västernorrland will also be restored.
