According to Nordicom's media barometer presented on May 29, news consumption generally increases for traditional media, ie. SVT, SR, TV4, morning newspaper and evening newspaper. And the increase was greatest in the group 15-24 years. In the age group of young adults, aged 16-39, the daily reach of SVT's news has increased by more than 25 percent in March / April compared to January / February this year. "Nothing we can take for granted"

That so many young people choose SVT News is gratifying. But there is nothing we can take for granted. Every day we have to have the fastest, sharpest and most relevant news reporting. Smart news consumers can't settle for less.

Young news consumers are a group we, in the name of honesty, have not been good at reaching before. We know that young people are conscious and source critical when choosing news sources. They are looking for credibility, speed and overview. In recent years, we have worked systematically to make the supply online relevant to them as well. Some self-examination has been required from us who have our history in the TV medium.

Quick news reporting

During the spring, we have invested heavily in explanatory journalism with, among other things, the doctor of epidemiology Emma Frans who addressed important everyday questions about how the virus is infected or how to recognize the symptoms. In the direct reporting, our reporters have provided fast and accurate news reporting and answered many of the audience's own questions. And our reviews have focused on the shortcomings in the authorities' handling of the crisis, for example how the requirements for protective equipment in the elderly care were faded after strong pressure.

Now we are further sharpening the work of relevant digital journalism for a younger audience. The experience of spring 2020 shows that the need for fast, credible and relevant news reporting on mobile is greater than ever.
