Diplomats said the United States has submitted to its partners in the UN Security Council a draft resolution proposing an extension of the arms embargo to Iran, and condemns the attacks attributed to it that targeted Saudi Arabia last September, while Tehran denounced Washington's hint of dialogue.

The text of the US draft calls for a ban on all member states from supplying, selling, or transferring weapons and related materials directly or indirectly to Iran, except in exceptional cases that are approved 30 days in advance.

So far, no date has been set for voting on the draft resolution, but diplomats expect Washington to seize the opportunity to hold a bi-annual meeting of the Security Council on Iran at the end of this month, to defend its draft.

Russia and China have already signaled their opposition to the US move to extend the arms embargo on Iran, which expires in October, according to the nuclear deal.

10 days ago, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres submitted a report to the Security Council, in which he said that the cruise missiles that attacked oil installations and an international airport in Saudi Arabia last year were "Iranian origin", but the Iranian mission to the United Nations strongly denied what was stated in the report .

Dialogue

On the other hand, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the statements of his American counterpart Donald Trump regarding negotiating with Iran were "false and strange".

Rouhani added in a statement that the United States is talking about its willingness to dialogue with Iran, while it chose to leave the dialogue table and violate international laws.

Rouhani considered that the American president thought that Tehran would surrender to sanctions and pressure 3 months after he withdrew from the nuclear agreement, and that this matter would push it to dialogue, but his calculations were wrong, according to his description.

The Iranian President stated that his country will not back down from its position under pressure, and that this matter has become clear to the world and it is necessary that Iran be dealt with logically, as he put it.
