by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea 25 June 2020 The Senate has canceled the resolution on cutting annuities for former MPs. "The Senate Litigation Commission canceled the resolution of the Bureau that had decided to cut the annuities for former MPs". Maurizio Paniz , a former deputy and lawyer who defended most of the former senators who appealed against the decision of the Bureau of Palazzo Madama, gave the news .

"The rule of law has been restored," commented Paniz, showing his satisfaction with the cancellation of the resolution: "A professional satisfaction but also in terms of personal relationships that I had with hundreds of former senators that I assisted. It is a result that it repays me for the commitment and the insults and threats received. I have not defended a privilege but a right, and in a rule of law this is everyone's victory ".

The two League senators , Simone Pillon and Alessandra Riccardi , voted against the decision to cancel the resolution.

The cancellation reasons
Resolution - said Maurizio Paniz - was canceled because it was deemed unjustified in view of the judgments of the Constitutional Court and the European Union law, according to which face a consolidated situation interventions to reduce the amounts must meet five requirements, none of which had been met by the resolution. In the first place it must not be retroactive, while this cut was; secondly, it must not have perennial effects, as the resolution did; thirdly, it must not concern a single category but must be 'erga omnes' , while here only the ex-parliamentarians were affected; fourthly, it must be reasonable, while this cut reached 8% of the amounts; finally he must indicate where the savings that cannot end in the great cauldron of savings go, and also on this point the resolution was lacking ". Senator Giacomo Caliendo  confirming the cancellation of the resolution on the annuities by the Litigation Commission of the Senate, said: "Now let's wait to read the reasons and see if there will be any appeals. I do not add anything else, given my role "because Caliendo also chairs the Commission.

Crimi: the caste holds the swag, a slap to the country
Vito Crimi, political leader of the 5 Star Movement, commented on the cancellation of the resolution on the scissors for the annuities to the ex MPs stating: "The Senate Litigation Commission has just canceled the resolution on cutting annuities for former MPs. They had been trying for months: they did it secretly at night. It is a slap in the face of a country that suffers. The caste holds the loot, we will never give up to restore the rule of law and the principle of equality. Who should we thank for this operation, the presidency of the Senate? "

At this point the question goes to the Chamber of Deputies. We will have to see if Montecitorio will adhere to the Senate Litigation Commission decision to cancel the cuts or will keep them.
