Specialists from the World Health Organization (WHO) have recorded a new surge in the incidence of COVID-19 in Europe after countries in the region began to relax previously imposed restrictions. On Thursday, June 25, said the Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, Hans Kluge.

According to him, the acceleration of the rate of coronavirus infection was detected over the past two weeks in 30 European countries. Moreover, in 11 countries, the increase in cases is so significant that if it is not stopped, then this will again push the European health systems to the edge of the abyss.

The total number of detected cases of coronavirus infection around the world as of mid day on June 25 (15:25 Moscow time) exceeded 9.277 million people, 478 691 died. This was reported on the official website of the World Health Organization.

According to published statistics, over the past day, 135,212 new cases of COVID-19 infection were detected, and 4,187 deaths due to the disease were also recorded.

The highest number of infected cases occurs in North and South America, the total number of cases there exceeds 4.6 million (49.6% of the global total). Europe continues to follow, with more than 2.58 million cases (27.8%).

Recall that the World Health Organization declared a pandemic situation with the spread of a new coronavirus infection on March 11, 2020, when the total number of cases detected worldwide exceeded 124 thousand with 4,5 thousand who died from complications.

According to the latest WHO data, the number of cases in the United States is approaching 2.33 million, but according to the Johns Hopkins University, the number of infected people in the country already exceeds 2.38 million, of which 122 thousand people (5.1%) died. According to The New York Times, a record number of coronavirus infections have been reported in Texas, Arizona, and Florida. The growth of cases also resumed in the state of Washington, which in March was one of the first outbreaks of COVID-19 in the USA.

Brazil ranks second in the world in the number of cases detected: according to the Ministry of Health of the country, over the last day it has increased by 42,725 and reached 1,188,631 people. According to the latest WHO data, nearly 1.15 million cases have been confirmed.

Over the past 24 hours, 1,185 infected people died in Brazil, a total of 53,830 patients (4.5%) have died since the pandemic.

A source in RIA Novosti in medical circles said that Brazil began testing a vaccine developed by British specialists from Oxford in partnership with one of the pharmaceutical corporations. The study involved two thousand volunteers.

The third place in the number of cases detected in the world is Russia, where the diagnosis was confirmed in 614 thousand people (mortality rate of 1.4%), but the number of new cases is steadily decreasing after passing the peak in the first decade of May. This is followed by the United Kingdom, where the total number of cases exceeded 306 thousand with 43 thousand deaths (mortality 14%). According to WHO data, the top ten countries with the highest number of identified COVID-19 carriers also include Peru (261 thousand), Chile (255 thousand), Spain (247 thousand), Italy (239 thousand) and Iran (212, 5 thousand).
