On the beaches of Mourillon (Var), many bathers who wanted to finally enjoy the beach and the summer temperatures were surprised to see blue or purple jellyfish floating around two. These pelagic jellyfish ( pelagia noctiluca ) are stinging. Contrary to popular belief, they do not appear because the water is hot, but rather because they are pushed by the currents and the wind.

A dozen burns treated each day
At the entrance to the beaches, an alert message indicates the presence of jellyfish. Since their appearance on the weekend of June 20, Var firefighters have treated around ten minor burns every day. But for scientists, nothing indicates for the moment an abnormal proliferation of these invertebrates.
