While students have resumed their journey to school since Monday, some teachers are alarmed by the closure of schools for suspicions of Covid-19. Aurélien Boudon, co-secretary of Sud Education, denounces "an omerta of the administration" and instructions aiming "to pass over in silence" the information.

TESTIMONY

On May 19, France had 70 schools closed for Covid-19 cases. Since Monday, kindergartens, primary schools and colleges have reopened more widely, according to announcements from Emmanuel Macron. But some are already backtracking. In Paris, for example, at least two schools have already closed, sometimes without information for parents or teachers. Interviewed by Europe 1, Aurélien Boudon, co-secretary of Sud Education, denounces "an omerta from the administration" and a "refusal to communicate".

"A desire to pass over in silence"

"One has the impression that there is an omerta of the administration since there is a refusal to communicate as well in the representative bodies of the personnel clear assessments of the number of cases in educational establishments, the number of schools that had to be closed, "deplores the trade unionist. "And when there is suspicion there is very little information that is given on the one hand to families, on the other hand to the educational community of the establishment."

The lack of clear instructions and information adds, according to him, a desire to hide information from the people concerned. "And there is a bit of a will to pass over in silence. The first instructions when there is suspicion is 'above all you say nothing, you do not speak to anyone and you continue to act as if nothing had happened' . "

A welcome despite suspicions

Teachers are also alarmed about the procedure to be followed in the event of suspicion of the disease against one of the members of the educational team. "If a staff is sick we will tell them to go home, to be tested and during this time, the school will continue to operate, the school will continue to welcome students, even as they were able to be in contact with the personnel concerned by the suspicion ", explains Aurélien Boudon.
