On Friday, June 5, the Finance Region Council went out and could tell that all Stockholmers who wanted to be tested for covid-19 would get it for free. The ambition was to test 10,000 people next week - which they also did. But the opposition is critical and believes testing is going too slowly.

- The figures are still on the decline for the poor, the Stockholm region should perform much better, says opposition regional council Aida Hadzialic (S).

Interest has cooled

But the Financial Region Council Irene Svenonius (M) believes that testing goes according to plan, and believes that interest in PCR testing in the Stockholm region has not been as great as before - and therefore it has not been tested to the same extent.

- For several weeks we have had higher capacity than people have wanted to test, because the outbreak of infection has decreased in Stockholm, says Irene Svenonius (M).

Four times as many tests in Norrbotten

Last week, 13,700 people were tested for PCR, ie active covid-19, in the Stockholm region. This is an increase compared to the previous week and 578 tested per 100,000 inhabitants. This means that several other regions are far ahead of Stockholm in terms of per capita testing. In Jönköping more than twice as many per capita are tested and in Norrbotten four times as many per capita compared to the Stockholm region.

Problematic start

Since the region announced that it will be free for the Stockholmers to test themselves for covid-19, some problems have arisen. The app that patients use to book through has had to be shut down, and in addition, the strategy has changed from the original plan, which was to test around the entire county, to today can only be booked in two different places.
