  • The Shifty School, the first higher education course linked to skateboarding, opens in September in Bordeaux. It is a first in France.
  • Linked to Sup de Com, the course offers a bac + 3 equivalent of communication manager focused on the world of skateboarding.
  • Inspired by the Malmö skate high school (Sweden), the course provides theoretical lessons but above all 60 hours of “skate culture” per year led by professionals from the board world.

“We learn best by talking about the things we like. Arnaud Dedieu loves skateboarding and will direct the first higher education course linked to skateboarding in France in September. The Shifty School will open its doors within Sup de Com, in Bordeaux, and the candidates are already scrambling.

“Girls especially, rejoices the quadra, creative director and professor of digital marketing. They are more numerous and motivated. These are activists who want to develop women's skateboarding. »High school graduates also from Switzerland or Belgium, but also young retraining students who are giving up carpentry studies. All are seduced by the project, a tempting touch it must be said.

"Today, we feel that skateboarding is an asset"

At the Shifty School, if the core curriculum joins that of the classic communication theory taught at Sup de Com, law and marketing will be reviewed in a skateboard style. Ditto for creative lessons, such as Web Design. Then come 60 hours of “skate culture” during which students will learn to build, develop and launch projects under the leadership of speakers from the board world. Among them, Léo Valls, an iconic skateboarder from Bordeaux, who eats, prays, loves skateboarding and above all masters the codes of digital. The influencer is also the collaborator of Arnaud who, via his agency Dedication, develops skate-town planning in the Gironde capital.

“Bordeaux is one of the only cities in France to open up to this concept. Here, there is a real skateboarding policy, like in Malmö [Sweden] or Copenhagen [Denmark]. It seemed natural to me to open the Shifty School here and take advantage of this local will which puts our passion in the center of the city, ”argues Arnaud Dedieu. It is also in Bordeaux that the Rave and Magenta brands energize skate culture. In Bordeaux, the coexistence of skateboarders with other users of public space is softer. "We feel that the city wants to anticipate the developments and that skaters have their place," says Arnaud Dedieu. In the end, today, we feel that skateboarding is an asset, whereas in my time, I tended to hide my passion. "

"It is with their passion that we will hook these students"

In 2020, skating is taking a step aside. And that would be, in the minds of many recruiters, showing agility, adaptability and perseverance. It also means being young and creative, mastering street culture and digital. "It is not an absolute truth, some of our candidates have profiles of disconnected, but these presuppositions are true, advance Arnaud Dedieu. The culture of skateboarding has always been transmitted by video, drawing or magazines and today skateboarders communicate a lot on networks. The imagination around this sport is very strong. "

Inspired by the Malmö skate high school, where "the results in the exams are excellent", the Shifty School will therefore use the skateboard as a serving hatch. “It is with their passion that we will hook these students, announces Arnaud Dedieu. And maybe at the end they will work in a completely different field. In the meantime, only 20 candidates will start their studies in September, to ultimately obtain a bachelor (bac + 3) from communication manager.
