China News Service, June 24, according to the WeChat public account of the Gansu Longxi County People's Court, on June 24, 2020, the Gansu Province Longxi County People's Court publicly announced the case of bribery and abuse of power by the former deputy director of the Municipal Public Security Bureau, Du Huizhen. The defendant Du Huizhen was sentenced to 11 years and six months in prison for several crimes, including a crime of bribery and abuse of power, and was fined 600,000 yuan. The judgment on the proceeds of bribery was confiscated according to law and turned over to the State Treasury.
After trial, the court held that the defendant Du Huizhen, as a staff member of the state organ, used the convenience of his position to seek benefits for others. He repeatedly demanded and illegally received cash and property from others, amounting to more than RMB 6.57 million, which is a huge amount. Abuse of power has caused significant losses to public property, totaling more than RMB 1.24 million. Their behavior constitutes the crime of taking bribes and the crime of abuse of power, and they should be counted and punished. Some of these crimes are joint crimes. The defendant, Du Huizhen, had a bribery plot and should be severely punished.
The news pointed out that, in view of the fact that the defendant Du Huizhen had truthfully confessed the crime facts, he voluntarily surrendered some of the crime facts that the case-handling organs had not grasped, and had a frank plot; if he pleaded guilty and repented in court, he could be given a lighter punishment. Taking into consideration the defendant Du Huizhen's criminal facts, nature, circumstances and degree of harm to the society, the court made the above judgment.
