It happened in January this year in connection with a traffic control in Paris. The man in charge was named Cédric Chouviat, 42-year-old scooter messenger. The control gave rise to a prolonged exchange of words that ended with four policemen overpowering Chouviat and pushing him down to the ground.

After the intervention, the man was taken unconscious to a hospital where he died two days later.

The intervention was filmed at a distance by some passersby. The pictures did not provide the opportunity to draw conclusions about violence. A police investigation was launched into the incident. The investigation showed that Chouviat's larynx was broken in connection with the intervention. The cause of death was heart failure due to asphyxiation.

Chouviat filmed the intervention himself

These days, the newspaper  Le Monde  and the media  site Mediapart  have been able to access a total of thirteen different video recordings made in connection with the intervention where one clearly hears the exchange of opinion between Chouviat and the police. It shows that the intervention against Chouviat lasted for about twelve minutes.

At an early stage, Chouviat himself starts filming what's happening. The police are also equipped with cameras.

Time and again, the word exchange seems to be about to end, but takes off again when Chouviat appeals to the police. During the exchange of words, the police hear Chouviat not coming closer and Chouviat telling the police not to touch him.

- Pajas, you hear the helmeted Chouviat say to the police after eleven minutes of mouthing.

"Okay we'll take him," says one of the police.

Officers are being investigated for murder

Then there is a sound, probably from when Chouviat breaks down - with the help of a throat grip according to an outside witness - and then a click from the handcuffs placed on him.

- Stop, stop, Chouviat screams.

And then, seven times:

- I'm choking! I'm choking!

Four police officers who participated in the intervention are currently being investigated for murder. Prosecutions may be brought shortly.
