Last week, several West Swedish municipalities went out and urged residents to save on the water. This applies to Färgelanda, Uddevalla, Munkedal and Sotenäs, among others. And despite the rain this weekend, the County Administrative Board wants to warn of a possible dry summer.

- It is great that it has rained this weekend, it has reached 20 millimeters, but then you have to remember that about 30 percent of that rain has already evaporated, the rest it is quickly washed away or absorbed directly by the vegetation, says Tor Segerbo.

Most affected: Coastal municipalities and eastern Skaraborg

He thinks we need to be careful about the water we use and keep in mind that there may be restrictions going forward.

- It is above all our municipalities on the west coast that are severely affected and that can be affected by more people coming and vacationing on the west coast. Even in the eastern parts of Skaraborg there could be problems, we saw this in 2018 and 2019 in groundwater levels.

Key species threatened

The summer of 2018 was a year that hit hard at groundwater levels in Sweden and that meant that 2019 was also hit hard. The County Administrative Board is worried about yet another dry summer that will have devastating consequences.

- The worst case scenario is that we get a prolonged drought. For example, it can have long-term consequences for key species, disappearing they can also disappear other important species, says Tor Segerbo.
