New episode in the showdown between Twitter and Donald Trump. For the first time, Twitter has chosen to hide content posted on Tuesday, June 23, by the American president, and not to delete it, arguing that there was a threat of harm against an identifiable group.

"There will never be an 'autonomous zone' in Washington as long as I am your president. If they try, they will face a considerable force," the American president tweeted, in the context of demonstrations against police violence. and racism for weeks.

There will never be an “Autonomous Zone” in Washington, DC, as long as I'm your President. If they try they will be met with serious force!

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 23, 2020

This is only the second time that Twitter has used public interest exceptions regarding a tweet from the President, since its inception last summer. The tweet therefore remains visible "in the public interest", it is specified, but a precise mention that the tweet "violated the rules of Twitter on abusive behavior".

This feature forces users to click to read the tweet and aims "to minimize the reach of the tweet, while allowing the public to see and discuss it," we can read on the site.
