Jöran Hägglund, governor of Jämtland County, has recently written an appealing letter to Tröndelag County Governor Frank Jenssen.

- We have had email contact at the beginning of the pandemic, then it has not been so much. Now I thought I was writing a letter, says Jöran Hägglund.

The county governor describes, among other things, how the spread of infection in Jämtland Härjedalen looks, and how the state, the region and the municipalities are working to reduce the spread of infection.

"Tranquil development"

The purpose is to show that the spread of infection in the region is not as great as others may have perceived, ”says Jöran Hägglund.

- We belong to the county in Sweden that tries the most in relation to the population, and then we had an explosive spread in Åre early during the sports holiday. Since then, we have had a quiet development, except at the elderly homes in Östersund. It may not have appeared, you look at the total and it gives a false picture.

Proposes a Gotland solution

In the letter, Jöran Hägglund also describes how hard Jämtland County has been hit financially, especially the visitor industry.

Jöran Hägglund writes that he hopes the letter will become a basis on which the Norwegian government can make "wise and well-balanced decisions". He also mentions that Norway's rules, which only allow trips to and from Gotland, are a good example of a local adaptation that "we like to see more of".

- All the governors along the borders of Sweden, from Skåne to Norrbotten, have on a number of occasions talked about the development with a closed border and tried to inform our Norwegian colleagues about the situation. Now I felt it was time to follow it up and get some help from the Norwegian side.

No answer yet

Jöran Hägglund also asks Frank Jenssen if there is anything Jämtland County can do to make people from Tröndelag feel safe when they visit.

But no answer to his letter has been received by the governor yet.

- No, but I was going to call him for a follow-up, says Jöran Hägglund.
