Spanish parliamentarian Juan Baldovi asked a group of parliamentary questions related to Bahrain's record of human rights violations, according to a website published by Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain.

On May 27, Baldovi asked questions of the Spanish parliament regarding the situation of political prisoners and reports of grave human rights violations committed by the regime in Bahrain.

As part of a renewed campaign to highlight violations, MP Baldovi posed a new set of questions, and demanded answers on how the Spanish government took steps to condemn such "atrocities".

The deputy opened the session by saying that the Minister of Interior Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa "was not held accountable for the crimes of torture and extrajudicial killings that occurred under his command."

Baldovi accused another figure from the authority in Bahrain, Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the son of the king of the country, that he was directly responsible for torture and was not accused or rebuked by the regime, which reaffirms a culture of impunity with deep roots in Bahrain, according to the Spanish parliamentarian who confirmed "Serious crimes such as torture are permitted at the highest levels of authority."

And the website of "Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain" website quoted Baldovi as saying that Hasan Mushaima and his colleague Abdel-Wahab Hussein continued to be arrested.

Representative Baldovi stressed that he needs "clear and direct answers" to his questions regarding diplomatic measures used by the Spanish government to encourage dialogue between the King of Bahrain and opposition leaders, and the nature of efforts made to ensure the release of Bahraini political prisoners within the precautions related to the "Covid-19" epidemic.

He also demanded similar answers to the legal or diplomatic measures taken by the Spanish government against Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa and Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, so that they can be held accountable for the crimes they committed against humanity in Bahrain if they travel to Spain or any region in the European Union.

Deputy Baldovi is awaiting a response from the Spanish government.
