Seven people, including an alleged member of organized crime in Corsica, were arrested by the National Gendarmerie Intervention Group (GIGN) in Haute-Corse, as part of the investigation into an assassination committed in May 2019.

These arrests took place during the night of Wednesday to last Thursday and weapons were also seized, said sources close to the investigation into the assassination of Antoine Francisci, who was discovered killed by a firearm next to his buggy on a departmental road, in the town of Pietralba (Haute-Corse), May 13, 2019.

Among those arrested, five were placed in custody as part of a warrant to be brought before Tuesday to the examining magistrate in Marseille, said a source familiar with the matter.

The alleged member of organized crime is one of the people placed under lock and key. Already convicted in 2015 of money laundering and extortion, he is the family of a man killed in August 2012 and presented as a founding sponsor of the Sea Breeze, a famous island criminal gang.
