The mayor of Rocca di Papa Emanuele Crestini died at the Sant'Eugenio hospital in Rome, seriously injured in the explosion of the town hall that took place a few days ago. This is what has been learned from health sources. His condition had worsened in the past few hours. It is the second victim of the explosion: the delegate of the first citizen, Vincenzo Eleuteri, died on Sunday.

"The mayor of Rocca di Papa - reads a note from the ASL Roma 2 - has passed away. In the last few hours his condition had worsened due to a subsequent respiratory crisis and the picture resulting from the infections of the injuries reported due to the long stay at the site of the fire. A feeling of deep condolence is expressed to the family and the whole community of Rocca di Papa ". Crestini had been hospitalized for days at the Great Burns center of the Sant'Eugenio hospital in Rome, after the explosion of ten days ago which involved the town hall building.

The first citizen reported burns on 35% of the body, particularly on the face and hands. He had been the last to leave the building after the accident, worrying before he had employees, advisers and citizens evacuated. Four days ago his delegate, Vincenzo Eleuteri, had died too, too remained in contact with the toxic gases of the smoke. The solid particles of the fire had caused serious damage to the respiratory tract.

Salvini: deserves a medal

Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said so, adding: "for the mayor Emanuele Crestini I believe the gold medal for civil valor is a must".

So the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella in a statement.
