- Often people think that they can let go of their children just because there are marine lifeguards in place. But, the responsibility is still on the individual to supervise, says Torbjörn Andersson, operative coordinator at the Skåne Nordväst Rescue Service.

On several occasions, marine life rescuers have been alerted to children who have been injured from their parents' sight:

- Then we immediately run a drowning alarm and call the rescue service. Most often the children are found on the beach, they have only gone away from parents who have not been watching.

Must be able to assess risks

During the week, warmer weather is expected in Skåne. The Swedish Lifeguard Society assesses that finer weather in combination with the coronal situation and home stress will increase the risk of accidents.

"If you want to drop children off to the beach, for example, they obviously need to be able to swim, but they also need to be able to make risk assessments," says Mikael Olausson, an expert in water safety at the Swedish Life Rescue Society.

- A recommended minimum age is 12 years, but it all depends on what beach it is and if there are many waves, rocks and currents.
