The World Karate Championships, originally scheduled for November 2020, are postponed for a year, from November 16 to 21, 2021, still in Dubai, due to "the uncertain situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic", announced the Federation Karate International (WKF) Tuesday.

"The International Karate Federation has decided to postpone its major event due to the uncertain situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic," she said in a statement, saying that "the well-being and safety of combatants and spectators may not be insured during the Covid-19 "epidemic.

As a result of this postponement, the World Karate Championships will now be held in odd years, instead of even. The 2022 edition planned in Hungary is therefore already postponed to 2023.

The 2020 World Championships were originally scheduled for November 17-22.
