According to information from La Provence , the Marseille trade unionist Kamel Guemari has been placed in police custody. This McDonald's employee in Saint-Barthélémy, in the northern districts, had made himself known through his long social conflict against the fast-food giant. More recently, this restaurant had been "requisitioned" by employees to centralize food aid intended for the most deprived.

Kamel Guemari is heard alongside another union member, for a reason that is still unclear. Contacted by 20 Minutes, the departmental public security department of Bouches-du-Rhône refers to the public prosecutor's office, which has not yet responded to our requests.

The arrest was made public by LFI deputy from Marseille Jean-Luc Mélenchon. "We are calling for Kamel's immediate release," wrote the parliamentarian in a tweet. According to him, these arrests constitute "new abuses of power in Marseille. A rally is organized at 6 p.m. in front of the Noailles police station, in the center of Marseille, learned 20 Minutes from concordant sources. "It is a provocation of the forces of disorder in view of the municipal elections," says Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
