The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) on Tuesday formalized additional aid of 6 million dollars (5.3 M EUR) to its 10 member associations, intended for their clubs affected by the crisis caused by the pandemic of new coronavirus in the region.

This contribution brings to 85 million dollars (75.2 M EUR) aid for health emergency released by the body since March, said a statement from the Confederation.

The 10 associations will be able with these aids to provide for the needs of their clubs registered in Copa Libertadores and in Copa Sudamericana.

A total of $ 2 million will cover laboratory expenses for the Covid-19 screening tests.

The remaining 4 million will feed a fund that could be released "according to the needs of each association," said the statement.

The funds will be distributed equitably among the member associations "in strict compliance with the rules of the Evolution Funds and with an express responsibility concerning the destination of the investment", we continued.

Conmebol's assistance to its associations aims to reduce the impact of the pandemic, which has caused the suspension of all tournaments at national and international level in the region.

The president of Conmebol, Alejandro Dominguez, had asked Fifa on April 8 for an immediate meeting to study the creation of a global fund to help federations, heavily affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
