China News Service, Guangzhou, June 23 (Cai Minjie) As an important public health problem, AIDS is an irreversible and secret way of infection that makes it a threat to public health. Cai Weiping, director of the Center for Infectious Diseases of the Eighth People’s Hospital of Guangzhou, recently called for the establishment of a comprehensive three-dimensional AIDS protection system, and on the basis of retaining the original free treatment of AIDS, mainstream AIDS treatment drugs should be included in medical insurance.

AIDS is short for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. It is a chronic infectious disease caused by human immunodeficiency virus mainly transmitted through sexual contact and body fluids. In severe cases, it can lead to death syndrome.

Cai Weiping introduced that in the area of AIDS prevention and control, the Mainland began to implement the “Four Frees and One Care” policy in 2003, that is, free antiviral treatment, free maternal and infant blockade, free testing, free schooling for AIDS orphans, and comprehensive care for AIDS patients. So that they can return to society.

It has been 17 years since the "Four Frees and One Care Policy" was released. Nowadays, antiretroviral therapy for AIDS has entered the era of integrase inhibitors. Due to its good efficacy and safety, integrase inhibitors have become the drugs of choice in many international AIDS treatment guidelines.

According to Cai Weiping, compared with the free drugs covered by the policy, integrase inhibitors can almost meet the requirements of patients for long-term medication. Take dotiabaramid tablets as an example, which has the characteristics of allowing the virus to be controlled in a short time, being less prone to drug resistance, and having less toxic and side effects. At present, the multiple replacement Abalami tablets have been listed in the mainland, but have not yet entered the scope of medical insurance.

Cai Weiping said that the vast majority of patients in the mainland currently use free drugs, and most of the integrase inhibitors belong to the category of self-paid drugs. Patients who are resistant to free drugs can only use self-paid drugs. In order to continue treatment, some patients use "haitao" to purchase overseas generic drugs.

In order to make up for the lack of free drug treatment, Cai Weiping called for the establishment of a three-dimensional AIDS protection system. On the basis of retaining the original free AIDS treatment and guaranteeing the medical level of the poor, medical insurance included mainstream drug integrase inhibitors to reduce the economic pressure on patients to purchase drugs.
