In July, 80 percent of the occupancy at Skellefteå's campgrounds usually consists of Norwegian citizens and the result throughout the season, the Norwegian guests correspond to half of the guest nights.

However, the Norwegian travel restrictions, which means that those who visit Sweden must be quarantined upon their return, disturbs the Swedish camping industry.

"It will be incredibly noticeable," says Marie Lindqvist-Holmlund, head of Skellefteå municipality's campsites in Byske and Skellefteå.

Hope for good weather

Skellefteå campsites now go out locally to Swedes in the immediate area with the message that it is possible to camp corona safe.

- Everything is guesswork. I think it's weather-wise. If we get this kind of weather we can be good in Byske while Skellefteå camping can go worse as it is a city camping.

At Lycksele's campsite, travelers from Norway usually account for half of the guest nights. In addition, guests disappear from the set Motor Week.

- There will be significantly less people this summer. One can hope that there will be a change in Norway. It may turn out that Sweden's strategy is quite smart in the long run, hopes Mats Gunnarsson, camping manager.

Believe in Swedish guests

Now those who run the campsites hope that good weather will attract Swedes later this summer. Because even in Umeå, Finns and Norwegians usually account for half the occupancy.

- I still think that there will be quite a lot of Swedes. It sounds like there is great interest in camping, says Björn Hedlund, destination manager at Nydala camping.
