One Thursday evening in November, Michelle Ekholm calls her mother. The daughter has neither the money, the ID nor the train ticket to the hometown of Stockholm.

During the morning, she had been discharged from the LVM residence where she was cared for under the Substance Abuse Act.

Die in police custody

The phone call on Thursday night will be the last time Ann-Sofie Ekholm talks to her daughter. Early, early the next morning, 20-year-old Michelle Ekholm is found wandering the streets of Lund. The police don't know it then, but when they find Michelle, she has already taken an overdose.

A few hours later, she dies in police arrest.

- I regret not saying "take the train and plank home". But I'm glad I wasn't angry, that the last thing I said to her was not something bad, says Ann-Sofie Ekholm.

Prosecution against the head of department

Prosecution is now being brought against the head of the LVM-residence that wrote Michelle Ekholm.

- The discharge from LVM care should take place when the purpose of the care can be considered to have been achieved. This is also what is stated in this printing decision. But I mean, in this case, it was obvious that the goal had not been achieved and that this girl was under extensive abuse, says prosecutor Lisa Åberg.

She believes that the reason why Michelle Ekholm was discharged from the LVM housing was because the accommodation was taken for granted that she would instead be treated by psychiatry in Lund.

- But there were no guarantees for that. When psychiatry then made the assessment that there was no reason to force her, the LVM care was written off and she could not be brought back to that home. Then she got wind of a wave in a city that was not her hometown. Where she didn't really have a safety net at all, says Lisa Åberg.

Criticism from IVO

The LVM housing itself made a lex Sarah notification a few days after the discharge of Michelle Ekholm. IVO (The Inspection for Health and Care) has also criticized the LVM home's actions.

The police's actions in connection with the arrest of Michelle Ekholm have also been criticized.

- I'm so damn angry. That three instances: the department, the social and the police failed so, on the same occasion, says Ann-Sofie Ekholm.

Neither the prosecuting head of the department nor the defense comment on the prosecution that has now been brought.
