Bromölla municipality is struggling with a deficit of SEK 27 million. The Swedish Democrats have submitted a savings proposal to keep the economy in balance. So far, the governing bodies have had difficulty getting through their proposals.

- We have a tricky parliamentary situation. Sometimes it is the opposition that governs the municipality, says Eric Berntsson (SD), municipal council in Bromölla.

He took over the leadership of the municipality from the Social Democrats after the 2018 elections.

Extra convened meeting before the holiday

Eric Berntsson has called for an extra municipal council meeting. On Monday, politicians will meet to discuss money.

- The economy weakened quite well last quarter. We have made a basic proposal for savings and want to have a dialogue with the other parties.

Former municipal councilor Jenny Önnevik (S) does not want to anticipate the meeting and say how the Social Democrats stand in favor of the Swedish Democrats' proposal. She has previously criticized the current board.

- If you want to run a municipality, you have to do it, says Jenny Önnevik to SVT Nyheter Skåne.

Savings in school, culture and leisure

The Swedish Democrats want to make savings of just over SEK 10 million. Three million of them in school and preschool. One suggestion that has already met criticism is to move grades 4-6 from Gualöv's school to the Humle School. The Swedish Democrats also want to transform more services as a preschool teacher into childcare providers.

- There are currently two preschool teachers and one nursery teacher per department. In the future, there may be more nurses and fewer preschool teachers, says Eric Berntsson.

The Swedish Democrats want to sell Näsum's sports hall and Bromölla camping. They want to remove the youth council and halve the municipality's association grants. In addition, they propose efficiencies of two million in the labor market unit Bryggan and half a million in culture and leisure.

The decisions taken at the municipal council's meeting on Monday will pass on to the municipal council for decisions.
