Right now, the largest archaeological excavation in Blekinge is underway in ten years. The site is Ljungaviken in Sölvesborg and the archaeologists have made a very special discovery.

- In terms of scope and time period, this is unique to Scandinavia, says Mikael Henriksson, first antiquarian at Blekinge museum.

The archaeologists have found a community from the Hunters Age, which is 8,400 years ago.

- We have found about 60 remains of houses, lots of flint and fireplaces, says Carl Persson, project manager for the excavation.

The excavation is done by the Blekinge Museum and paid for by the municipality of Sölvesborg. The price tag is eleven million SEK.

The excavation will continue until the end of July, after which the area will be built with housing. The archaeological finds made in the area will be exhibited in the future.
