June 22, 2020In the coronavirus crisis "we have touched firsthand how important European cooperation is. I want to express my satisfaction with the alliance launched by Italy, Germany, France and the Netherlands for the vaccine". Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said this during a press conference in Villa Madama with his German colleague Heiko Maas.

"If we manage to overcome the old divisions, if we build the cohesion and solidarity of the last few weeks, then Europe will be able to emerge stronger from the crisis," Maas said before leaving for Rome in the Rheinische post newspaper.

"No country will be able to revive itself if its neighbor does not come out of the crisis, if the demand cracks, if the value chains are interrupted" continued the German minister. This is the task Germany has given itself for the European Presidency semester that begins on 1 July, continued Maas. "The coronavirus pandemic has hit Italy harder than the others but we all suffer the consequences of the crisis equally in Europe," he added.

In a press conference Di Maio also spoke of tourism saying that "many German tourists have arrived and are arriving in Italy, this is good news for our economy".

Then the visit of the German minister to Spallanzani in Rome. "The consolidated collaboration between the Spallanzani Institute and Robert Koch is a prime example of the intensity of relations between Italy and Germany in the scientific and medical field".

"The Covid crisis, both in its most acute phase and now that we are facing its economic and social consequences, has strengthened our cooperation. I again wish to thank the German government and people for the important manifestations of solidarity with Italy through sending medical supplies and medical personnel, "added Di Maio, recalling that" thanks to the German reception, we were able to organize 44 medical flights for the transport from Italy to Germany of as many ICU patients. The last two patients are who returned to Italy on June 18 ".

"I was keen - said the owner of the Farnesina to Spallanzani staff - to let Heiko Maas know about our white forces, the ones with whom we fought the war against the virus. Thanks to their intelligence, their sacrifices, their efforts, we have managed to contain this pandemic and we have been able to face in the best way a health crisis that has forced the world to change many of their habits. My thanks go to all those who have not spared themselves among doctors since the first day, nurses, social and health workers, the whole world of scientific research. It is thanks to them that we have won and we are proud of the work they have done, what they do and what they will do ".
