The Prisoners of Conscience account said that contacts with Saudi preacher Awad Al-Qarni - who has been detained since 2017 - have been cut off since the first weeks of Ramadan, that is, more than a month ago. Al-Qarni is one of the most prominent Saudi preachers arrested in the campaign launched by the Riyadh authorities in September 2017.

The account of the "prisoners of conscience" added in a tweet on Twitter, that Al-Qarni was tired in his last contact, and he has not yet called, not on Eid Al-Fitr, or in the periodic communication that the prison administration allocates to him.

The "Prisoners of Conscience" account added that Al-Qarni has been arbitrarily detained since September 10, 2019, without any legal justifications, noting that "the false charges against him are his moderate position and his refusal to attack Qatar at the outbreak of the Gulf crisis in June 2017."

Health status

And the same account has previously been alerted to the deteriorating health status of the Saudi preacher, as he was brought in one of his trial sessions while he was in a wheelchair at the end of last year, after spending more than two months in the hospital.

The Public Prosecution office in the specialized criminal court in Saudi Arabia demanded what it called the killing in order to provoke Al-Qarni, in addition to Salman Al-Awda and Ali Al-Omari.

Al-Qarni's voice was always loud in calling for fighting corruption in his country, and he did not forget to call for raising the ceiling of political freedom there, and then the Saudi authorities' media described him as the head of the Muslim Brotherhood in the country.

Al-Qarni has published many jurisprudence books on legislation, and contemporary issues such as controversy, modernity, advocacy, and others.
