• Interview.Omar Montes: "I suffered bullying: they called me a moro and a gypsy shit"

The state of alarm made Omar Montes (32) the hero of his neighborhood. In the Blessed Bread there is much hardship and he has been in charge throughout these months of making the purchase for dozens of families. With the help of his group of stalwarts, his Illuminati team - El Galleta, Casares, Salsero Lady, Moncho ... "without them he couldn't," he confesses - has distributed bags and bags of food and basic necessities in the neighborhood where grew up.

Now it is his friends who are in charge of the task while he resumes his work and returns to lock himself in the recording studio to finish a song with C Tangana and RVFV that will be released in mid-July. He also has another song in his portfolio with Beatriz Luengo and Yotuel Romero that will be published in August, as well as several performances after these months of hiatus: Elche (July 3) and Madrid (August 7). Meanwhile, he continues to win gold records. It is a return to normality.

Behind that image of a baton with gold chains and cuddles hides a boy who cannot bear to see people suffer, who are now many. Especially in his neighborhood, where he continues to live despite having made a lot of money. "I stay here, I will never leave, this is my neighborhood and here are my people," confesses LOC Omar Montes, former boxer, former Chabelita, star of reallities and the ragpick that devastates Spotify.

He is happy because he has just won another gold record for the Rueda remix with Chimbala and Juan Magan (he has 11 platinum and three gold) but he has been a little overwhelmed these past months. An interview in El País found that since the coronavirus crisis broke out, he had become the hero of the Blessed Bread . "I did not want to hype this because I do it from the heart," he clarifies. "They told me that this could make more people become aware, and that has been the case. There are many kids who write to me and I am very happy with the response," he says.

Now it is his friends who make the purchase and fill the pantry with many people , but he has been doing it until now, and not only in Pan Bendito. Its particular NGO extended even to other cities, such as Bilbao or Barcelona . "I have friends there, I make an income for them and they buy and distribute. As long as I can, until the situation improves and people can find life, I will be supporting them." They have been weeks of work in which many times it started at 8 in the morning "and did not end until 8 at night," he told LOC a few weeks ago.

The Alocao interpreter especially softens the heart of the elderly . "It is that they give me a lot of tenderness. Older people are my priority because I am very sorry to see them alone. There is a 90-year-old woman who has lost her husband for a long time and the poor thing is heartbroken. Every time I go up to her house I see a movie with her. Many times more than food what they want is for you to keep them company , to talk, to tell you their little things ... ", he points out.

Everything comes out of his pocket but Omar does not want to reveal how much money he has spent because "some may think I want to show off." He confesses that it is an "indecent" amount . Money, he says, does not matter. "I've always been very clear about it, it's the least of it. Why do I want to be the richest in the cemetery? I'd rather spend it with the people who need it." He confesses himself as a believer and assures that God will reward him. "Look, this is what makes me number one, because it's not that I'm the best singer, the best dance or the most handsome, no. When you are a person and do things well in life and help to others, God rewards you ", he assures.

During that time, and with the concerts canceled, it has focused on people and the composition of new songs. "I have always liked helping, since I was little. I only know that in my neighborhood it is me who helps, the president does not come here ," he concludes.
