The Mediawan group announced the acquisition of 3rd Eye, Good Mood and Lagardère Studios, the big pieces of this operation. The restructuring plan proposed by the management of the NextRadioTV group, which provides for between 330 and 380 departures among the 1,600 employees, obviously causes a lot of turmoil within the teams of all the channels. This weekend, companies of journalists from all newsrooms issued press releases to voice their concerns and ask to keep jobs. Denis Brogniart will therefore definitively leave TF1's Sunday program "Auto Moto" on July 12. He will nevertheless keep "Koh Lanta" and "Ninja Warrior". After the cancellation of the 2020 edition of Eurovision where Tom Leeb was to represent France, France Télévisions has again decided to change its formula to choose the candidate. Tom Leeb will no longer represent the country for the 2021 edition.

The Media Journal begins with a very big business announcement.

The general public may not know the name of Mediawan, the company founded by Xavier Niel (boss of Free), Pierre-Antoine Capton (producer of "C à vous") and Matthieu Pigasse (the boss of Inrocks and Radio Nova). However, in a few years, Mediawan has become one of the biggest European producers and it is going to continue to grow.

The group announces this Monday morning a vast strategic operation: the acquisition of 3rd eye, the company created by Pierre Antoine Capton almost 20 years ago, that of Good Mood, an audiovisual production house and especially that of Lagardère Studios, the big pieces of this operation.

Lagardère Studios has 25 production labels from which came out, in particular, the documentary series event on the Gregory affair, broadcast on Netflix, the series "The Eddy", again on Netflix. There are also very well-known shows like "C dans l'air" on France 5. There was no shortage of contenders for the acquisition of Lagardère Studios. Among the contenders, there were the Spanish of Mediapro and more recently Fabrice Larue who had created Newen but it is ultimately Mediawan who should win the song. The group of the trio Niel-Capton-Pigasse has submitted a takeover offer which may reach 100 million euros. Be careful though, the operation is not completed. Mediawan and Lagardère have yet to agree on the terms of the deal.

Something to note from the NextRadioTV group, owner of BFMTV, RMC, BFM Business and the RMC Story, Découvertes and RMC Sport channels, among others.

In question, the restructuring plan proposed by the group's management and which provides for between 330 and 380 departures among the 1,600 employees. We were talking about it again at the end of last week and these figures obviously cause a lot of turmoil within the teams of all the channels. This weekend, companies of journalists from all newsrooms issued press releases to voice their concerns and ask to keep jobs. We joined François Pitrel, the president of the SDF of BFMTV, who explains to us the reasons for his concern.

Many questions therefore and for the moment few answers. Because if we first thought that the social plan would affect above all the activities related to the sports offerings for which the group has lost the rights over time, it should be much broader. This is what surprised the editorial staff of BFM, François Pitrel gives us his feelings. No one is immune to being embarked on by this wave of departures.

In the calendar, a general assembly is planned for Tuesday and should make it possible to see more clearly on the situation, it is not impossible either that the principle of a strike is voted during this GA. Since its creation 15 years ago, BFM has never been affected by a strike.

Movement on the side of online press offers.

We learned this morning that the Cafeyn platform has just concluded an agreement with SFR Presse. Cafeyn is an offer that allows its users to read a large part of French newspapers and magazines for a monthly subscription, much like it happens with Spotify for music or Netflix for series.

At this microphone, we talked about this merger of Cafeyn with its competitor SFR Presse which Altice wants to get rid of. Finally, this operation is done in two parts. On the one hand Cafeyn buys from SFR, the start-up Milibris which allows publishers to digitize their content and others, Cafeyn, concludes a distribution agreement with SFR Presse which will become Cafeyn over the weeks.

Arié Assuied, the boss of Cafeyn explains how he sees the future of his young business and the online press market.

An opening towards the international which has already started, Cafeyn is already present in particular in England and Italy. A French start-up that is thriving well!

The very busy Denis Brogniart has decided to lighten his schedule from next season.

It has been eight years since Denis Brogniart presented Auto Moto, the host decided to ease off. Denis Brogniart will therefore definitively leave TF1's Sunday broadcast on July 12. No question of unemployed so far, Brogniart will always be the presenter of Koh Lanta, of Ninja Warriors and he will also be in command of a new program called "District Z", produced by Arthur.

A word to end this media journal.

Tom Leeb will not represent France at Eurovision 2021. France Télévisions has again decided to change its formula to choose the candidate. Applicants can send their models from June 29. There will be a big show to choose this new representative. "My luck is over," said tall gentleman Tom Leeb.
