  • A 22-year-old man is scheduled to appear before the Marseille Criminal Court (Bouches-du-Rhônes) on Friday, he is accused of having uttered death threats against Jacques-Henri Eyraud, president of OM.
  • The club is conciliatory, it could accommodate the young man in the event of a sentence for community service.

A man accused of having published death threats on Twitter against the president of Olympique de Marseille Jacques-Henri Eyraud will be tried on Friday in Marseille, (Bouches-du-Rhône), we learned from the parties. The 22-year-old student, who wrote under the pseudonym "Petit Bambou", is accused of "provocation not followed by effect in committing an offense or a crime".

He will appear this Friday before the 11th chamber of the Marseille judicial court for having written that he had to "put three bullets in the head" of the leader challenged by some of the supporters of the football club. "Petit Bambou" also revealed the address of Marseille's home to "JHE", then assured that he did not even think it was the right address.

The conciliatory OM

"It was a youthful mistake, but he became fully aware of his act," said his lawyer, Frédéric Pourrière, to AFP. "He is undergoing therapy, it was a behavioral disorder, he is now in a positive approach", continues his defender. He maintains that his client "had no intention of really harming Mr. Eyraud". It is more about "confusion between the real world and the semi-reality of a tweet", still argues the lawyer.

If he faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros, OM seems ready to be accommodating. "If works of general interest (TIG) were requested, we could push the logic until proposing that he performs them for the OM Foundation and the circle would be closed," suggests the lawyer of the Ligue 1 club, Olivier Baratelli. "Petit Bambou" has "the intelligence to admit the facts and has made amends, we could help him set foot in the stirrup," concludes Me Baratelli.
