Shortly after the vibrant tribute paid to Steve Maia Caniço on Sunday afternoon in Nantes, several hundred people started to wander the streets again, playing techno music. The objective was twofold: to demand once again “justice for Steve” and to organize, on the occasion of the Fête de la Musique, a sort of mobile teknival for lack of having obtained authorization to land in town.

The demonstration being prohibited by the prefecture because of the “risk of disturbances to public order” and the “risk of contagion”, the police force repelled the participants on several occasions, whether in the city center and then on the island of Nantes. The sometimes tense situation repeated itself around midnight. Garbage cans were set on fire, street furniture was also damaged. The police used tear gas several times. Fifteen people were arrested, reports the national police.
