Japan's Okinawa Prefecture stated that a prefectural employee confirmed that white smoke was seen from outside the Kadena base at 11 am, and it was suspected to have emerged from the building between the south runway and the hangar.
The US military stationed in Japan stated that the people in the building had been evacuated after the fire broke out, and no casualties have been reported.
The Okinawa Police said that around 9:30 am, the US military notified "a fire in the building under construction". In addition to continuing to extinguish the fire, the US military will also investigate the cause of the fire.
