French President Emmanuel Macron denounced, on Monday, June 22, the "dangerous game" of Turkey in Libya, stressing a direct threat to the region and to Europe.

"Today I consider that Turkey is playing a dangerous game in Libya and is violating all of its commitments made at the Berlin conference," he said after an interview with his Tunisian counterpart Kaïs Saïed. at the Élysée.

"France and Tunisia together demand that the belligerents put an end to the fire and keep their commitment to resume negotiations initiated within the framework of the United Nations with a view to restoring security for all, to reunite the Libyan institutions and to engage reconstruction for the benefit of all Libyans. "

"It is a difficult path that requires everyone to show responsibility, to stop foreign interference and the unilateral acts of those who claim to gain new positions in the war," he said.

Tensions between Paris and Ankara

Turkey intervenes militarily in Libya in support of the government of national understanding (GEN), recognized by the international community, in the face of the offensive of Marshal Haftar, the strong man of eastern Libya.

This Turkish support, in addition to Moscow's support for Khalifa Haftar, makes people cringe and causes concern for the United Nations and the countries engaged in recent years in mediation to bring the country out of chaos and to lead to a lasting ceasefire between the two rival camps.

The tension has notably escalated in recent days between Ankara and Paris, the two accusing each other of contributing to the deterioration of the security situation in the country divided in two and plunged into chaos since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi, in 2011.
