Turkey has expressed confidence in the possibility of cooperating with the European Union to counter racism against Muslims.

Fakhruddin Alton, head of the communications department in the Turkish presidency, said that Turkey is ready to support the efforts made by Europeans towards achieving equality between Muslims and other religious groups.

This came in a speech during a symposium organized on the occasion of the presentation of a report on Islamophobia in Europe for 2019, by the Turkish Sita Center for Political, Economic and Social Studies, yesterday, Saturday.

Alton noted that the report shows a clear increase in the number of attacks targeting Muslims and their mosques, especially in the past 5 years.

He pointed out that "international right-wing entities" are operating as they wish in Europe, including the Hannibal Organization in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Alton criticized the use of official media in Europe, by focusing on news of extremist fighters, European citizens, among the ranks of the Islamic State and al-Qaeda, "while ignoring or lavishing praise for extremist left fighters in the ranks of the terrorist organization B-Kaka (PKK) and others."

He pointed out that Turkey has taken historic steps to not differentiate between members of religions, by returning non-Islamic endowments to their owners, restoring synagogues and churches, and supporting all citizens on an equal footing without differentiating between them.
