The CEO of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Nasser Al-Khater confirmed that Qatar was keen to adhere to the timetable set for the opening of the championship stadiums, and then the announcement of the readiness of the Education City Stadium was the third of the World Cup stadiums.

Al-Khater pointed out that all the preparations for the championship, including construction and infrastructure projects, are also going according to the schedule despite the current crisis of the Corona pandemic, stressing that the completion rate of the World Cup preparations exceeds 80% more than two and a half years ago, which confirms Qatar's keenness On completion of all preparations well before the tournament.

Qatar announced on Monday that the Education City stadium is ready to be the third FIFA World Cup 2022 stadium, which will be officially completed after the Khalifa International and South stadiums in Al-Wakra.

Al-Khater indicated that they reached a somewhat innovative way by announcing digitally or virtually the opening of the Education City Stadium officially, as they abandoned due to the Corona epidemic their usual way of launching new stadiums through a major football event, whether it was a final or a big friendly match.

The new stadium is located within the Qatar Foundation's educational city, known as the Desert Gem, and has a capacity of 40,000 seats.

"At the end of this year, the work will be completely completed in two other championship stadiums and they will be officially opened," Al-Khater told Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

It is expected that Al-Rayyan and Al-Bayt stadiums will open later this year, after the completion of work in them, as included in the World Cup Preparation Plan.

The Education City Stadium will host a number of the 2022 World Cup matches from the group stage to the quarter-finals, and the number of stadium seats after the tournament will end will be reduced to only 20,000, by dismantling the upper tier seats for donation to countries lacking sporting infrastructure.

"Our previously planned plans are to witness the end of the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup, and it is being prepared with observation of the current situation regarding the Corona crisis, and a tournament is being planned in 2021 for the Intercontinental Cup," Al-Khater said.
