This was reported by TASS with reference to a statement by the deputy chief of police of the city Thomas Berger.

It was clarified that in the city several hundred people smashed shop windows last night and robbed them, smashed cars, and also attacked policemen.

The reason for the riots was that the police patrol wanted to stop for checking a 17-year-old German suspected of selling drugs. Young people in the city center came to the rescue of the alleged offender and opposed the police.

In total, according to the police, about 500 people took part in the unrest. To suppress the riots, the Stuttgart authorities had to bring law enforcement officers from neighboring cities.

Earlier in Germany and several other countries, protests were held in connection with the death in the United States of African American George Floyd. In one of the parks in Berlin, graffiti with the image of the deceased appeared, as well as his dying words "I can not breathe."
