Omar Abdel Aziz, a Saudi opposition activist who lives in Canada, said that the Canadian authorities told him that he is a potential target for Saudi Arabia and that he should take precautions.

The British Guardian newspaper quoted Omar Abdel-Aziz - who had a close relationship with Jamal Khashoggi - that he believed was threatened, and that the Canadian authorities had credible information about a possible scheme to harm him.

Abdul Aziz added that the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman or his team want to harm him, but he is not aware if the scheme was his assassination or kidnapping.

He said it was the first time he had received a call from the Canadian Federal Police to inform him about this.

The Guardian indicated that the Saudi embassy in Washington did not respond to an inquiry from the newspaper regarding this matter.

A research institution at the University of Toronto previously told Abdulaziz in 2018 that his phone had been hacked by a network linked to Saudi Arabia.

Bloomberg reported last year that Omar Abdulaziz had filed a case with Twitter for allegedly failing to inform him of a breach of his account with the support of Saudi Arabia.

According to Abdul Aziz's case, this led to the discovery by Saudi government agents of his plans to organize a protest movement on social media with Jamal Khashoggi, a few months before his assassination at his country's consulate headquarters on October 2, 2018.

Abdul Aziz stated that the Saudi government recruited the Saudi Ali Al-Zubarah - an employee of Twitter - for its purpose in order to spy on activists and collect intelligence information by penetrating their accounts.

It is noteworthy that Twitter had fired al-Zubarah from its job in 2015 and said it had informed some of its customers that their accounts had been compromised by government agents.
