You should not hang out in bars, go out and dance, squat or even hold your hand. Corona pandemic has not only put risk groups in solitude, but also singles seeking love. As a result, online dating has seen a significant upswing.

The dating site Mötesplatsen tells SVT that the number of new members increased by 25 percent during March-May compared to the same period last year. Happy Pancake sees a 30 percent increase. The dating giant Tinder does not want to communicate membership numbers but confirms a large increase in activity in the app.

"At the end of March, we hit records with over three billion swipes, which is very big for us," says Leyla Guilany-Lyard, European communications manager at Tinder.

Dating only online

The Meeting Place also noticed a change in behavior and a survey among members, due to the corona, shows that 66 percent only date online. The chats are also longer and longer. At the same time, 41 percent said that they felt extraordinarily longing to meet someone now when things were troubling in the world.

That more people want to find love is also confirmed by dating coach Jeanette Vinberg, who states that she has 30-40 percent more conversations now, compared to before.

- I feel that many feel lonely and that they have come to a point where you do not want to live alone but you want a partner, she says.

Find outdoor activities

If you do not feel comfortable with network dating, there are still alternatives, says Jeanette Vinberg. She then suggests finding an association or activity outdoors where there may be singles.

- There are lots of outdoor training for example right now, kayak clubs and other things you can join to find love.
