It was around midnight, on the night of Saturday to Sunday June 21, during a police check that the situation got out of hand in Stuttgart, Germany . Law enforcement officials have reportedly verified the identity of a person who apparently uses drugs on the banks of a small lake, not far from the town center, where many young people are partying. The situation then escalated and turned into a confrontation.
A dozen groups are said to have formed, a total of 500 people dispersed throughout the city center, confronting the police and throwing stones and chairs at shop windows. According to the police even, the situation was out of control for a while and it took the reinforcement of 200 police officers to manage to calm the situation around 3 am. In total, " more than a dozen police officers " were slightly injured, according to a statement from the local police.
A dozen arrests
When they awoke, residents discovered the stigma of these clashes with broken glass everywhere and damaged police vehicles. A dozen people have been arrested but the motivations for these clashes, political or not, remain unknown.
Already last week, this city, the birthplace of the automaker Mercedes, had been the scene of clashes, much more limited, between young people and the police.
