  • In Lyon, the town hall has decided to ban street concerts because of government directives linked to the coronavirus.
  • Sunday evening promises to be calm, even if a few small meetings are starting to be organized via social networks.

Those who thought they had forgotten these complicated months by dancing and being guided in the city by street music will have to find a plan B for Sunday evening. Due to the health crisis linked to the coronavirus and in accordance with the government directives framing the rallies, the city of Lyon has decided to ban spontaneous concerts on the public highway for the Fête de la Musique. Festivities that attract almost a hundred stages and thousands of spectators each year as normal.

This decision is justified by the municipality by the difficulty of enforcing barrier gestures in the street in the event of large gatherings in front of artists' scenes. "The Ministry of Culture specifies that" gatherings of more than 10 people are always prohibited on the public domain, spontaneous concerts are not allowed ". Thus, in order to comply with the latest instructions given by the government, and contrary to what was announced last week, even amateur musicians will not be allowed to play in the streets of Lyon, "said the city of Lyon on Thursday.

Last minute musical events

Bars and restaurants are not prohibited from organizing concerts, but they must respect health rules and ensure that their entertainment does not generate "uncontrolled gatherings on the public highway," adds the town hall. . Guidelines that should discourage most establishments from turning up the sound on Sunday evening and demotivate the artists involved, even if a few events began to be organized on Friday via social networks. A DJ set should, for example, be held in one of the cafes on Place des Terreaux, with a mask compulsory for the public. Artists should also take turns for sound aperitifs planned for the end of the afternoon not far from the city hall of Lyon. And scenes could blossom until the last minute in connection with different bars in the city. So watch out for the networks!

To allow certain events to take place in the street, the Rhône prefecture specified that, upon request from town halls, derogations could be granted, as long as health rules can be respected. But at the same time and to prevent any crowd on the public highway on Sunday, when the weather should give the feeling of reunion with friends, the state services have banned the consumption of alcohol in meetings on the street.

Again, the vast majority of municipalities in the metropolis preferred not to take risks and skip the Classic version of the Festival, by offering a digital version. In Vénissieux, Bron or Ecully, to name a few, concerts, sounds and videos will be broadcast online this weekend.
